Last Words of Famous Rock Stars

This post is not intended to endorse in any way, form or fashion, the lifestyles of the artists mentioned in this post while they lived on this earth. The post does seek to make any judgment or any determination about the eternal fate of these artists. We can only hope that each one of these had at least one moment to connect with their creator before their passing. In his book, The Encyclopedia of Dead Rock Stars, rock historian Jeremy Simmonds writes, “When the last moment [of life] does arrive, even the most articulate [musicians] can struggle to find the right words.” Simmonds lists the following last words of famous contemporary musicians: Amy Winehouse, the British singer who died in 2011, tweeted her last words: “Oinka Oinka Oinka why you awake.” Terry Kath, the Chicago guitarist who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said: “Don’t worry—it’s not loaded, see?” Michael Jackson: “I’d like to have some milk. Please, please give me some more.” Kurt Cobain: “I don’t have the passion any more, and so remember, it’s better to burn out than to …

Persevere: Don’t throw your away confidence

In 1866 an amateur geologist noticed some South African children playing with a glistening rock. Intrigued, he asked the children’s mother if he could buy it. She said it wasn’t worth anything and simply give it to him for free. Later when he examined it more closely, his hunch was confirmed, it was a diamond. He calculated its weight at 21 carats. Are you a young christian thinking that your new-found faith is worth nothing? Have you given up trying to find a new church for your family because of the bad experience you had in your last church? Are you being tested and tried by some problem and it seems like God is nowhere to be found? Are you thinking about ending your marriage because the situation still looks hopeless? Please don’t give up. Don’t throw away your confidence, for there is great reward in store for you. If you’ll just persevere and not give up, there is a crown of glory awaiting you. You have in you something that money can’t buy – something worth more than 21 carats, …

3 Things to remember in times of crisis

Sometimes it is very easy to forget how near God is to us in times of crisis. When we get blindsided by a crisis, we sometimes think that we will be completely crushed by our enemies and God is just going to sit back and watch. That fear alone can completely paralyze trust, hope and faith. In those times it becomes especially important to remind ourselves that our God is faithful and has promised to be there for us in our times of need. I would like to use Isaiah 33 as an example to show us what God does in times of crisis. Assyria, Israel’s enemy had come against them with apparent impunity. But God will visit his people with his saving presence. I believe He will do the same for you in your time of crisis. Here are a few things to remember: The Lord defends his people You spoke in thunder and everyone ran. You showed up and nations scattered. Your people, for a change, got in on the loot, Picking the field clean of the enemy spoils. God …

Will you be an April Fool for Christ?

Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. And those who went before and those who …

Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani: A Commentary on Matthew 27:46

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” This is the point of no return in Jesus’s mission to reconcile man back to God. At that point, all of humanity’s sin fell on Jesus. God the Father placing and seeing all the filth and sinfulness of man caused Him to turn away from Jesus His only begotten Son. In that moment there was a separation between father and son. Something that broke the heart of God and left Jesus crying – “Eli Eli, lema sabachthani – my God my God why has thou forsaken me?” What did Jesus really mean by this and how significant is it for us today? My God, My God: In quoting Psalms 22, Jesus declared His fulfillment of that prophecy, in both its agony and it exultation. The Psalm goes on to say, You have answered Me. I will declare Your name to My brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise You. (Verse 21 says – “Save me from …
