Is anything too hard for God? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son. Genesis 18:14 Abraham and his wife, as we know, had no children for a long time. They had longed to have children, But Sarah was barren. In this chapter, they are old,  hopeless, a little bitter toward God. They had waited for a long time in prayer, but nothing yet had moved in their favor. Doubt and disappointment had set in! And instead of focusing on the greatness of God, they made their childless situation greater than God, by focusing on it. It is in this context that the question God asked Abraham is truly understood. “Is anything too hard for the Lord? In scripture, meekness means “power under control.” In this context, the contrite, praying person is blessed with the indwelling control of the Holy Spirit and the inheritance promised to the believer even in conflict. History shows that it is the people who have learned this, people with their passions, instincts and impulses under disciplined control, who have been great. (see Numbers 12:3 and Proverbs 16:32) Thus: Blessed are those whose every instinct, every impulse, and every passion is under the control of God’s Spirit! They will be right with God, self and others and enter the life which God alone can give. Pray for this meekness when entering into dialogue with those of opposing positions. We so often hear and talk about the power and sovereignty of God, and about the things He is able or capable to do, but do you know that there are some things God cannot do? Before you think I am about to write something heretical, these things as you imagined are things that are inconsistent with his character and incompatible with his nature. For example: It is impossible for God to lie I am sure you have met, either in your family or among your friends, people who are not trustworthy when it comes to what they say. They promise you that they will do something, but never deliver on their promises. God is not like that – He means what he says and says what he means. The scripture says it is impossible for him to lie. What that means is that you can depend on his every word and trust in his promises. It is impossible for God to be unfaithful It is his nature to be faithful. 2 Timothy 2:13 says, …

The Power of Delight

Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 ESV Psalm 73 is a Psalm attributed to Asaph. Asaph was the music directed of King David who himself wrote most of the Psalm. But in Psalm 73, Asaph tells us how for a while he’d questioned the faithfulness of God toward his own. He tells us how much he envied the wicked because he looked at their lives and saw how much they prospered and how they had everything they wanted. But when he looked at his very own life and those of other God-fearing people, all they had were trials, troubles, tribulations and afflictions. This was something he couldn’t understand. Why would a godly man like him be afflicted with so much troubles and pain and lack, while the wicked lived in prosperity and ease?
