I will not take for the LORD what is yours, nor offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” I have always heard this passage use in the context of a fundraiser. Where the preacher urges the congregation or his audience to reach deep within their pockets and give an extravagant financial gift. I love the simplicity and the power of this challenge, but too often my desire to give disappear because the challenge is coming from, well, another TV evangelist, who always seem to want my money. My somewhat skeptical feeling is somehow true – because half or none of what I am being asked to give, really goes toward that cause. I think, in many ways, we have lost the act of motivating others to make greater impact with their substance and the act of inspiring them at the same time because of so much abuse from the pulpit. Rolling Up your sleeves

1 Peter 1:13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. The idea “of preparing for action” is much like the phrase “rolling up your sleeves.” God is calling us to roll up our sleeves and get to work on the most important thing in life – our faith, our relationship with him. Two thoughts from 1 Peter 1:13 1. Prepare you mind for action. Be Sober. This means to take a serious look at life. There must come a time in the life of every person when he or she must ask the hard or most important questions. What am I doing with my life? Where will I go if I were to die today? What is the meaning of all of this, God, Jesus, this world, church, suffering, my faith and christian life etc…? Am I on the right track? Am I sober? Am I right with God – am I growing as I should – is …

“Once exposed, a secret loses all its power.” ― Ann Aguirre, Grimspace My spiritual father once told me and quote, “Walter you are a closed book.” I think he was venting his frustration, and difficulty of trying to get me to share my secrets. His remark really didn’t matter much to me, because there was nothing personal I would ever share with him. My philosophy at the time was, “there are some secrets you want to keep in and others you dare not let out. Well, that was when I was younger and didn’t know better. In fact I met with him just yesterday. There is bondage in keeping secrets but freedom in letting it out. Everyone of us should have somebody in our lives to whom we can talk to on a regular basis. If you truly desire to live a life of freedom, victory and triumph over dark, sinful, secret habits – you must desire above all else a life of transparency. Your life has to be an open book. Let me be a prophet of doom for a moment. If you’ve never had a bad day, brace yourself; it is coming soon. It is not a matter of if; it’s only a matter of when. We all have bad days, the Bishops do; the giants of faith do, the Apostles do; the Prophets do, Pastors do and most certainly – you will too. The question here is how do you handle those very bad days? This is important because the way you handle a bad day could make or break you. You need to change your attitude and make some spiritual and practical adjustments. Only than can you grow your faith and bring yourself out victoriously. Here are a few things to consider: Take it to the Lord in Prayer Go easy on yourself and don’t be nasty toward others Count your blessings Be grateful for things that are going great Give God some sacrifice of praise, you may not feel like it, but do it anyway Remember to lean on the promises of …

20 Seconds of insane Courage

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 What you need is just 20 seconds of insane courage. Literally, just twenty seconds of embarrassing bravery. And I promise you something great will come out of it. Did you know that the phrase – “Be strong and courageous occurs more than 10 times in the NIV Bible? This must be pretty important for the Lord to remind us over and again. So give yourself permission today to “be strong and courageous.” No matter to outcome of your courage or bravery, just make sure that fear doesn’t paralyze you.

Matthew 10:16 You’ve heard it said that the race is not to the swift but to him who endures to the end, but at the 2012 Olympic games in London, we are learning that, it is not he who swims the fastest time but he who can touch the wall the first. The former is about perseverance and taking one day at a time. It’s about getting up when you fail and trying again. It’s about moving forward in the face of detours, and setbacks and adversity. But the latter is about smarts, creativity, ingenuity. It’s about doing what you have to do to outsmart your enemy. It is about learning all the wiles, schemes and tricks of the enemy, and a few of your own to beat him at his game.
