10 thoughts from Passion Week & Easter Sunday

I know, you might say, “too late for a post on Easter, it was two weeks ago.” Well, you might want to read till the last two points in this post to see what I have to say about that. But first, let’s get started with the first thing I learned about Easter during the passion week and Easter Sunday. Everything I’ll ever need is already provided “And he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written through the prophets shall be accomplished unto the Son of man.” Luke‬ ‭18:31‬ ‭ Martyrdom – no!/ Reckless devotion – yes! The call tho lay down one’s life is not a call to martyrdom- it’s a call reckless abandon of self… “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John‬ ‭15:13‬ ‭ True friends are those who are around when life a hard. We are called to be that kind of friend and hope to …

Day #16: I am Delivered

Fear not death for the sooner we die, the longer we shall be immortal. Benjamin Franklin The fear of death if a lifelong slavery for many. Man has always dreaded this unavoidable ending. If there were a pill to eradicate the death, I believe everyone is going to save up to buy and take it. Miraculously, Jesus Christ has given Himself over to death so that He can delivered us from the one who has the power of death. Look with me at Hebrews 2:14-15: Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. As followers of Jesus, we know who we are and where we are going. We’ve been delivered from the fear of death. We have what the Bible calls our ‘blessed hope’. This blessed hope is best known as a ‘blessed assurance’ …

Day #2: I am Loved

God loves you equally on your good and bad days. There is nothing you can do or not do to change His mind. Jeremiah 31:3, “The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” Welcome to day number 2 and thanks for joining me on this 21-day journey of discovering who we are in Christ. You are loved. There is nothing you can do wrong that would make Him love you less. There is nothing extra you can do to make Him love you more. You are loved on your good days and loved equally on your bad. God’s love for you is patient. It is kind. His love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things for you. Among the many things Jude could have written to his hearers, he chose to remind them of one thing: “keep ourselves in the love of God” (Jude 1:21). We need to live in a daily revelation of the …

Praise God!

Joy Is…

Most of my reading and preaching this month has been about Joy. I just completed a three part Christmas Series on Joy at my Church. And you can discover how to increase your joy here. In this post, I want to, at least try to answer the question – “What is Joy?” I made a statement during one of my sermons about joy that left a lot of questions. I could hear the murmuring in the congregation while I tried to explained what I meant. Let me share it with you and you can leave a note about your feelings or thoughts about it: Joy is not affected by afflictions; it’s only affected by sin. Sin decreases joy; affliction increases it. I believe joy is … An indestructible Assurance in who God is and everything He promised. This includes the following: The assurance of his covenant relationship with each and everyone of us. The assurance that comes from the joy of His salvation within us. That he is able to save to the uttermost. That …

Rivers of Living Waters

In May of 1989 my family and I woke up to the sound of mortar blasts, and rocket launchers in our back yard. It was a great spot for the government soldiers because of the cliff overlooking the other side of the city, where rebel soldiers occupied. When we left our home that day, we came across many displaced people who had been without food and water for many weeks. The fighting was intense and life as we knew it, came to a stop. We had no idea what life would look like the next few weeks with less food and no source of safe drinking water. By the time we hit the second week on the run, we began to realize how important water is. Vital organs began to shut down because of dehydration. Skin began to get clammy. Coherent thoughts began to vanish. As we struggle to find safe drinking water, our mouths became dry; our heads ached and our Knees became weak. Sadly, many others fell by the roadside for lack of water. …

two unchangeable things about God

So that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. Hebrews 6:18 How certain are the promises of God? The writer of the book of Hebrews claims that the certainty of God’s promises are guaranteed by God’s own perfectly trustworthy character. To illustrate this and prove the certainty of God’s promises, the writer uses Abraham as an example of one who through faith and much patience inherited the promises of God. As if that illustration was not enough, the writer makes a bold statement about two unchangeable things about God. What are they? And how important are they? The two unchangeable things are: God’s promise/purpose God’s Oath one deals with the fact that all the promises of God are yes! and the other is more like an assurance that he will certainly deliver on what he promised. Hebrews 6:13 says, “For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had …
