You do not fall into sin you slide into it!

But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. James 1:14 Have you ever walked upon the skin or outer covering of a banana? It is one of the scariest and most dangerous slip and fall you will ever have. You begin with a slide. It may be a short slide, but at the end of that slide there is a very had fall. I want to use this scenario to describe how one falls into sin. First of all, no one ever wakes up in the morning and tells himself, “you know, today I feel like sinning. I feel like buying myself some crack or cocaine and just getting wasted. Or, you know I’m going to get myself a hot babe tonight and commit adultery.” But I am not sure that is the way people fall into sin. It is a long, gradual, progressive slide. A journey of …

Yes! He is God.

I grew up going to the kingdom hall. My entire family used to be Jehovah’s Witnesses. So the very first question I asked the Jesus when I got saved was this – “Are You God?” His answer was a resounding “yes!” From the day he showed me John chapter 1, it has remained one of my favorite chapters in the entire Bible. The bible talks about the beginning. The beginning of Genesis 1:1 – when God created the heaven and earth. It is not talking about the beginning of God – because God has no beginning. Therefore since God has no beginning but exist from eternity to eternity and the word was with Him in eternity the ‘Word’ (Jesus) could not have been created. In fact the bible says, the ‘Word’ was with and the ‘Word’ was God. This ‘Word’ stepped out of eternity into time in the person of Jesus – the Christ – the Son of the living God – which happens to be a technical term used for Jesus. He has always been …

Nomads, Exile and Prodigal?

Some call them Nomads – those “wondering away from traditional religious institutions but say faith is still important to them.” I call them the free radicals – and they have exposed themselves to Satan’s most effective tool – Separate them as far from fellowship as possible, because in the long run they will grow cold. These people are in big trouble. Others are called Exiles – “exiles being those who are – still hopeful about their faith but feel stuck when they consider life’s challenges”. Jesus warns about this spiritual dilemma in Matthew 13:20-22. “As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves …

Anger does not produce the righteousness that God Requires

What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. you covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. James 4:1-2 What causes us to get angry? I believe we get angry because our desires are not fulfilled; our rights violated, our expectations are not met and because we have been hurt by someone. In any case, our unfulfilled desires result into anger. Everyone of us have areas in our lives where we are most susceptible to anger. I can almost hear my wife’s voice in the back of my mind – “stop pushing my button.” Let name a few I struggle with – I will surprised if you don’t: disobedient children a stubborn person yelling stress at work last-minute changes feeling neglected hurtful words unrealistic expectations disrespect unmet desires The list goes on! Our unfulfilled desires lead to fighting and quarreling. When any one of these occur in our lives, it causes us to react in anger. Anger in and of itself is …

All In

Mark 12:30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength How to love the Lord with all your strength This is our last post in the series All In. So far, I have challenged you to take everything you have, every part of your life and invest it in this relationship you have with the Lord Jesus Christ. If you are not yet fire up to give yourself completely in 2012 to the Lord maybe this last post will help you jump in. The command here in Mark to love the Lord with all one’s strength is a call for us to intensify our affections or bring all our energy to bear on one thing – loving God with zeal. In Ecclesiastes 9:10 we find the word “Might.”. In Romans 12:11 we find the word zeal. And in Colossians 3:2, 5 we find the word heartily. All of these used to describe how we need to …

Let us!

If you need a bit of motivation in your walk with the Lord here are a few passages in the book of Hebrews Hebrews 4:1 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. Hebrews 4:11 Let us, therefore, strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. Hebrews 4:14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. Hebrews 4:16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 6:1 Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God again, Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near with a pure heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts …

He was referring to himself.

Peace Within

Emefa is the middle name of my oldest daughter. This is an African name given to a girl. It is a name that is quite popular among the Ewe, Mina people of Togo and Ghana. The meaning of the name is “peace within” and speaks of the prince of peace coming to live in our heart. The only true and lasting peace to be found in this world is found in Jesus Christ. Even before Jesus was born, it was prophesied that he would bring peace (Isa. 9:6; Ps. 72:7). At Jesus’ birth the heavenly host announced that he would bring peace to earth (Luke 4:18). Throughout Jesus’ ministry he brought peace to others. 1. He interpreted his preaching as a mission of peace (Luke 4:18). 2. He taught his disciples that they could know peace in a world of tribulation (John 16:33). 3. He instructed his disciples to spread peace (Luke 10:5). 4. In times of despair, he brought peace to his disciples (John 14:1 – 2). 5. He promised his disciples that the Holy Spirit would …
