1 Samuel‬ ‭16‬:‭1‬ NLT

“Now the LORD said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my king.”

1 John 2:27 NLT

“But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie-just as it has taught you, abide in him.”

The meaning
The word “anoint” means to rub or sprinkle on; apply an unguent, ointment, or oily liquid to. Persons in the Old Testament were often literally anointed with oil. For example, priests were anointed for their special service to the LORD (Exodus 28:41). Literal oil would be applied, but as a sign of the Holy Spirit upon their lives and service. The oil on the head was only the outward representation of the real, spiritual work going on inside them.

The anointing has nothing to do with how eloquent, charismatic or talented we are. It’s not how loud, spirited or animated anyone can be on a stage.

It is a mountain moving, demon busting, yoke removing, joy releasing, holiness infusing, life changing, faith building, supernatural encountering Presence of God.

It is always giving to glorify Jesus through the preaching of the gospel; healing of the broken-hearted, setting captives free, breaking spiritual, physical, emotional, and psychological bondage; destroying spiritual wickedness; releasing favor, joy, freedom, worship and righteousness.

It is never intended to make the people we put up on pedestals look good. It is always to glorify Jesus and do His work effectively.

The Prayer
I pray that 2015 will be the year for a double portion of His Anointing to come upon us for ministry and the building of His kingdom.

I pray that He will have every part of our world in order to apportion greater deposits of His Anointing upon us for increase, multiplication and productivity.

I pray that he will burn away the fake, imitation, camouflage, fleshly showmanship, false caricatures and strange fires of His Anointing and baptize us with a fresh baptism of Holy Spirit fire.
