The Devil Inside Me

I read an article today entitled: Amanda Bynes: A Reminder that Mental Health Woes Flourish in Our 20’s? Sometimes these stories are written to mock and ridicule people for their erratic behavior. But as Christians we are called to show compassion for people. Mental Illness is no laughing matter and as the people of God, we need to talk about the subject because some of our brothers and sisters in church suffer from this illness. Here is a thought-provoking story I read on preachingtoday that I think could share some light. Let me share it with you here and leave you to answer the questions posed at the end of the article. Please feel free to leave a response. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated. NPR’s popular radio show This American Life featured an episode titled “The Devil Inside Me.” The show asked various people if they ever felt like they were under the spell of an “inner voice” that held them in bondage to unwanted thoughts. According to the show’s host, “It was like people had waited all …

A Biblical Perspective on Gambling

Part 2 A careful reading of Scripture makes it clear there are many biblical principles which show gambling is an evil to avoid. When people recognize God’s authority they will honor the principles which show gambling is evil. 1. Gambling is wrong because it is a disregard of responsible stewardship. The Bible clearly teaches that all things belong to God. “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” (Psalm 24:1). The first step in a faithful administration of this stewardship is the giving of self to God. Believers must recognize they are not their own (1 Corinthians 6:19). They have been redeemed with a price, not of silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Jesus (1 Peter 1:18,19). The churches of Macedonia set a worthy example of personal dedication when “they gave themselves first to the Lord” (2 Corinthians 8:5). Life, with all …

Laughter: Medicine to the Soul

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones… Proverbs 17:22 When was the last time you laughed? I mean really, really laughed? You cheeks hurt, your head hurt, your back hurt, your stomach hurt and nobody could stop you from laughing, it just kept flowing uncontrollably. I hope the guy in the picture above or something or somebody in your life today can bring you some laughter – because the bible says it is medicine for your soul. I don’t want to get too statistical here, but it is being said by doctors, that if you want to reduce the levels of chronic stress in your body, enhance your life span, boost your immune system function, protect your nervous system and sanity, and give your endocrine system much needed rest, you need to try laughter as a healing therapy. But before science came along to tell us this, the bible was already talking about it. So today, I recommend – Laughter! Laugh as much as you can and as many times …
