Laughter: Medicine to the Soul

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones… Proverbs 17:22

When was the last time you laughed? I mean really, really laughed? You cheeks hurt, your head hurt, your back hurt, your stomach hurt and nobody could stop you from laughing, it just kept flowing uncontrollably. I hope the guy in the picture above or something or somebody in your life today can bring you some laughter – because the bible says it is medicine for your soul.

I don’t want to get too statistical here, but it is being said by doctors, that if you want to reduce the levels of chronic stress in your body, enhance your life span, boost your immune system function, protect your nervous system and sanity, and give your endocrine system much needed rest, you need to try laughter as a healing therapy. But before science came along to tell us this, the bible was already talking about it.

So today, I recommend – Laughter!

Laugh as much as you can and as many times as you can throughout your day. Find something to laugh about. Let me get you started – look at the picture above – don’t you just love that grin on his face? It makes me want to laugh!

  1. I agree! When my sibling asked me “What is your favourite thing?”, the first thought that came to mind was “Jokes” ! 🙂

And I definitely gravitate toward people who use laughter to pull themselves out of the abyss.

A sense of humor… is needed armor. Joy in one’s heart and some laughter on one’s lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life.
