It rains fish in desert places when God gets ready to bless you!

I am about to tell you a true story that will blow your mind. The country is Australia. The town is Lajamanu and it is about 400 miles south of Darwin and Alice Springs, almost on the edge of  the Tanami Desert in Australia’s northern territory. It was sometime in April or March of 2010 that hundreds of fish began to fall from the sky as rain fell over the town. Residents of this desert community were left speechless as fish – some frozen, others still alive fell from the sky. For seven days they ran all around town collecting buckets of fish  that had fallen from the sky. A brief look at history will tell us that this incident was not unique to this Australian town: In the 1st century there were storms of frogs and fishes. In 1794 French soldiers reported toads falling from the sky. In 1857: Sugar crystals as big as quarter  of an inch in diameter fell over the course of two days in Lake County,  California. In 1940: A tornado in Russia brought a  shower of coins from …

The missing piece

I am a firm believer that every one of us have a gift. We are all destined to do something in life that no one else could ever do. Even if we did our best to imitate somebody else’s gift we could never quite deliver like they do. Each one of us are uniquely created and strategically gifted and placed to do just one thing and do it like no one else could. I recently read the story about an eighty-six year old man named Jack Harris. It took him more than five-hour a day for eight years to complete a 5 ft jigsaw puzzle of James Tissot’s painting “The Prodigal Son” – only to find out that there was a missing piece. He looked for that piece but it was nowhere to be found. See, the piece was accidentally thrown away and the thought of not completing the puzzle left Jack really sad. Fortunately, the manufacturer heard Jack’s story about the missing piece and graciously custom-made that piece for him to complete building the puzzle. There is a song that only you could write, …

It is Mine!

Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said. The Story This is a story we are all very familiar with… the story of the children of Israel before they actually entered the promise land. In the text above, Caleb comes to Joshua and reminds him of things that happened about 45 years earlier when God told them to enter the promise land. He (Caleb) and Joshua were two of the few that went up to explore the promised land and actually returned with great news and faith – that even though there were giants in the land, they were going to stand on the promises of God – that every piece of land they walked on shall be theirs. Well, we know that some of the other guys came back with a …

FIGHTING Demons with a Machete

It should also be of interest to you that most of the new church – the independent churches that have sprang up and are springing all over the continent of African are lead by men and wormen that left local churches from every major denomination in Africa (from the Assemblies of God, Baptist, Catholic, Methodist ect…). And usually these young men and women left because of a lack of leadership – one that inspires, impacts and deploys, lack of opportunities to use their gifts, because those in charge felt threatened, a lack of gospel power and Holy Spirit’s fire, and a lack of vision to do church differently – take risks – do new things – do some out of the box ministries. tap into the energy of the young.

Living anew ways of kingdom life/ part 2

1 Chronicles 14:13-17 Inquire | Watch | Action Learning anew the old ways of kingdom life 2. Watch Welcome to the place of tension. I promise you – it is an exciting place to be – wrestling with yourself about the right move you need to make and with God about whether He knows what he is doing. If you’re like me, I am usually screaming at the top of my lungs – Give me a revelation Show me what to do ‘Cause I’ve been trying To find my way I haven’t got a clue Tell me should I stay here Or do I need to move? Give me a revelation I’ve got nothing without You I’ve got nothing without You. Third Day Today we will continue with part two of our current 3 part blog series.  Here is the verse we are focusing on today: God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; go around and come against them opposite the balsam trees. And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then go out …

Learning anew the old ways of Kingdom Life/ part 1

1 Chronicles 14:13-17 Inquire | Watch | Action Learning anew the old ways of Kingdom Life 1. Inquire How do you go about decision-making? Do you ask the Lord before making decisions, or do you just wing it. Do you rely on a hunch or a gut felling? I would assume that most of you reading this blog post take very seriously these words – “in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path.” Unfortunately, many believers don’t have that much patience to acknowledge the Lord in anything. In 1 chronicles 14:14 we find this really great example of David seeking guidance from the Lord about the way he should take. What a great example: And when David again inquired of God, It is not clear how David inquired of the Lord, since Abiathar did not come until David was already in Keilah (1 Sam. 23:2, 6). Perhaps he inquired through the prophet Gad (cf. 22:5). But we can confidently say that he inquired of the Lord directly in prayer. Unfortunately, this old fashion kingdom lifestyle has been abuse so much that many …

Benefits of Genuine Worship/ Part 3

Freedom Reigns I want to thank the Lord because every opportunity we get to meet with him and worship him is an opportunity for him to release into our lives all of His goodness. I pray that on this independence day, we can all tap into the freedom that comes from pure and genuine worship. Worship brings freedom to the life of the worshiper John 4:23 says, “The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” For genuine worship to happen it must be done in Spirit and Truth. In fact, it is safe to say that the only kind of worship that pleases God is one done in Spirit and Truth. God is actively seeking a certain kind of worshipper. Only those who worship in Spirit and Truth qualify. Everything else is worthless. There must be a reason God chose worship in Spirit and Truth as the keys to having a genuine worship …

What is the gopspel? N. T. Wright explains

Thirteen Minutes is precious time, but it will be well invested listening to what N. T. Wright has to say about the gospel. I encourage you to take a listen, you will not regret it. Who is N. T. Wright? N. T. Wright is an Anglican bishop and a leading New Testament scholar. Wright was the Bishop of Durham in the Church of England from 2003 until his retirement in 2010. He is currently Research Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at St Mary’s College, University of St Andrews in Scotland. Among modern New Testament scholars, Wright is an important proponent of traditional views on theological matters including Christ’s bodily resurrection and second coming. Further he has expressed strenuous opposition both to the ordination of openly gay Christians and the blessing of same sex partnerships and marriages as occurs in the Episcopal Church (United States). I really like him. Video Via Pangea Blog

A Comfort That Shouldn’t Be

The self loathing was a ‘beyond my control, caught in my throat’ kind of oppression. It led to the most emotionally excruciating pain I have ever experienced. The conversations in my mind were increasingly evil. So loud, yet they somehow made perfect sense to me. I planned ways to die. I yearned deep in my soul to leave the pain behind forever. I saw no end in sight. I would hear a voice whisper with such evil force, “You are not worth anything.” That was an awful voice, but it was familiar. Yet, I faintly heard another voice that never left me. Screaming, in the most comforting way, to help me. Heather Mertens You might enjoy reading: The devil inside me

listening: a greater service than speaking.

Christians, especially ministers, so often think they must always contribute something when they are in the company of others, that this is the one service they have to render. They forget that listening can be a greater service than speaking. Many people are looking for an ear that will listen. They do not find it among Christians, because these Christians are talking where they should be listening. But he who can no longer listen to his brother will soon be no longer listening to God either; he will be doing nothing but prattle in the presence of God too. This is the beginning of the death of the spiritual life, and in the end there is nothing left but spiritual chatter. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together (New York: Harper & Row, 1954), pages 97-8.
