You are being build into a Spiritual House

Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:4-5

God is on a mission. Through the hands of the master carpenter he is building a temple. Only this time a spiritual power house. As we draw new to Him, our foundation is the chief cornerstone – Jesus himself. I love the way C. S. Lewis describes it in mere christianity:

Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.

One of my friend’s Rod, just reminded me that “God’s version of us is way bigger than our own.” The time has come for us to embrace a bigger, bolder, broader and wider version of what He wants to do in our lives.

Just as Israel had a temple in the old testament, so do christians in the new testament. But the temple we have is spiritual – we are the temple.

Just as much as they were chosen by God in the old testament,
so is the church - chosen and precious.

Just as much as they had a priesthood, so are we a holy priesthood.

Just as much as they had sacrifices, so do we offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God.

What are these spiritual sacrifices?
There are five spiritually power-pact activities
going on in this power house. Here they are:

1. We offer our bodies as living sacrifice
holy and pleasing unto God... rom. 12:1, Col. 3:17

2. We offer sacrifices of praise
Heb. 13:15

3. We offer sacrifices of service
Heb. 13:16; James 1:27

4. We offer sacrifices of righteousness
Psalm 4:5

5. We offer sacrifices of a broken spirit
and a contrite heart - Psalm 51:17

5. We offer sacrifices of thanksgiving
Amos 4:5
What a house – I imagine good things happening there!
Those who do not know that we are the temple in which God wants to dwell always settle for less. But those who do always embrace something far greater than one can imagine – living power houses.

  1. Blessings Walter,

Everything you said is so true, we have to look beyond this world with spiritual eyes while embracing God’s great plan for our life. In a nutshell, it’s like walking outside on a windy day, you can go with the invisible-or you can go against it. Thanks for sharing.

    God bless you,
