10 Bible Characters of Great Faith

…we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses…

It is imperative to surround oneself with people who can impact your life for the good and not for the bad. Here is a list of a few great men and women worth hanging out with 24/7.

1. Noah was a man who took God seriously.
Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him. Genesis 6:22

2. Nehemiah was a man who silenced the Nay Sayers and did what they said he couldn’t do.
Then I replied to them, “The God of heaven will make us prosper, and we his servants will arise and build, but you have no portion or right or claim in Jerusalem.” Nehemiah 2:20

3. Job was a man whose life and resolve was tested beyond imagination, yet did not curse God.
“In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.” Job 1:22

4. Joseph was a man who was wholly devoted to the Lord even in times of injustice, betrayal, and temptation.
“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.” Genesis 50:20

5. Ruth was a woman who left everything she had for something far more significant than anything she’d ever imagined.
But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the LORD do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.” And when Naomi saw that she was determined to go with her, she said no more.” Ruth 1:16-18

6. Esther was a woman who understood her times and seized the day not only for her people but also for God.
“For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14

7. Daniel was a man whose integrity and prayer life Helped him to see incredible miracles and prophetic mysteries.
“He went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done.” Daniel 6:10

8. Elijah was a man who availed himself in such a way to God. As a result, Gods used him mightily.
“Then the angel of the LORD said to Elijah, “Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.” So he arose and went down with him to the king.” 2 Kings 1:15

9. Paul was a man so passionate for the lost, that he literally would have walked upon broken glass just to reach the next person.
“A prophet named Agabus came down from Judea… took Paul’s belt and bound his own feet and hands and said, Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘This is how the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles… For I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” Acts 21:10-14

10. Phillip was a man who chose to live by the spirit; follow His promptings, and be used by the Spirit.
“Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place… And there was an Ethiopian.” Acts 8:25-40

  2. Do you know what’s so interesting about 2017? Many people now don’t seem to believe God still uses us in Supernatural ways anymore but He’s still calling, still leading, still providing when we put our hope in Him and give Him our time every day instead of trying to be our own gods of our own time every day.

  3. Very nice, I appreciate your insight, thank you very much Walter. I do have a question for you however, why is Abram, his name changed by God to Abraham, not to mention making a covenant with him to this day and from now on,Genesis:17……, not mentioned in your top 10?
    God Bless you Walter Bright

    • You’re right, I think any list should have his name prominently featured on it. There are no particular or theological reasons for not mentioning his name here. This is not an exhaustive list. However I compiled another list that I entitled “10 More Bible Characters of great faith.” It is trending on my blog right now. Check it out. Thanks for your question. Sorry it took forever to get a reply. Stay blessed!

      • I do not think there is any way one can measure the dedication father’s compare to mothers in the bible. We find both fathers and mothers leading extraordinary lives in the bible. At the same time, we find the opposite as well.

They had a calling upon their life for the ministry what the Lord wanted to do. They gave themselves fully for the work of the Lord. But as Mothers had to raise their children’s do house hold works they had limited time to serve the Lord. As they were submissive to their husbands and helping them in the ministry by upholding in their personal prayers.

  4. Iron sharpens iron so the right Divine Connection enhances and impacts life. Especially people who understand with empathy and compassion. Few may not immediately support as expected, but the Holy Spirit steps in as a Divine Helper and Comforter to intercede with Jesus where human efforts is lacking. It is important to be realistic not to expect too much from others. Unless they ‘walk’ in your shoes may not realise need until you verbalise exactly help required. Never assume they know already but to some may not make any difference so leave it to God to help you as people can only do so much for you. 7. Reblogged this on Delight Thyself in the LORD and commented:
The Bible is filled with examples of great men and women of faith. They mentor us in the ways of God. We can learn what to do and what to avoid by studying the lives of men and women in the Bible. We can also learn from Biblical anti-heroes–such as Balam, Nabal, King Saul, and Jezebel. If you study about their lives, you’ll know what displeases God.

  10. I did not see Daniel and the Hebrew boys they had faith in God as well. That is why they were not scared to go in the furnace because they knew of a man that the king did not know.

faith can move mountains, there are even many great people whom you did not even mention above; the likes of abraham, enoch, elisha, sarah, issack, moses and the rest (hebrews 11)

    • I agree with you Joseph, any list without the names of Abraham, Sarah, Moses, Elisha and Enoch is not a complete list. But I would argue that even a list with their names on it will not be conclusive either. I contend that there are many more men and women of faith in the Bible and my goal was not to list them all. If I had my way, I would include names like:

Junia the apostle – Rom. 16:7
Huldah the Prophet – 2 Kings
Mary the first Evangelist – Matthew 28:7, 8
Lydia the Pastor – Acts 16
Priscilla the teacher – Acts 18:26
Mary the mother of Jesus – who said, “be it unto me according to your will.”
By the way all the above are women

      OR

      Let’s look at Hebrews 11
      Gideon
      Barak
      Samson
      Jephthah
      David
      Samuel and the prophets

      OR
Let talk about those without names… The bible simply calls them

      Women
      Some
      They
      These

You got my point, the list goes on and on…
So,you need to understand that my list is not exhaustive.
