It pays good to fear the Lord,,,

Who is the man who fears the LORD? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land. The friendship of the LORD is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant. My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for he will pluck my feet out of the net. Psalm 25:13-15. The word man in the passage is a generic therm and includes female. So anyone (both male and female who fears the Lord can rest assure that they will be rewarded. Six enduring blessings from this portion of scripture: The Lord makes It easier for you to discover His will, his direction and His plans. One of the reasons why people find it hard to understand the will of God is because of hidden and unconfessed sin. Sin tends to create spiritual dullness and insensitivity. Romans 12:2 says, Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your …

He will pluck my feet out of the net

Welcome to OneVerse! OneVerse is that passage of scripture that pops out and hits right where it should. Today’s OneVerse is taken from Psalm 25:1, 2, 15 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul. O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me. My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for he will pluck my feet out of the net. Sometimes the people of God (you and I, children of the King) are ensnared and taken captive by this corrupt nature, but Like Paul discovered, Jesus is the only one who can bring deliverance to his own. Sometimes we are tempted by Satan and his devices, wiles and snares seem to hover over us as he tries to tighten his oppressive grip on us. But Jesus know exactly how to release us from his grip. Than, there are times when wicked men/women try to bind our feet in the snare of the fowler. Yes, it could be a jealous best friend …

A Leader’s resolve in difficult and challenging times

“Anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm.” — Publilius Syrus “Big jobs usually go to the men who prove their ability to outgrow small ones.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson “Confront issues and challenges – not each Other.” — Suzanne Mayo Frindt “Difficulties mastered are opportunities won.” — Winston Churchill “In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.” — Theodore Roosevelt “Leaders aren’t born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that’s the price we’ll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal.” — Vince Lombardi “Leaders do not avoid, repress, or deny conflict, but rather see it as an opportunity.” — Warren Bennis “Misfortunes, untoward events, lay open, disclose the skill of a general, while success conceals his weakness, his weak points.” – Horace “One of the true tests of leadership is the ability to recognize a problem before it becomes an emergency.” — Arnold H. Glasgow …

How to work the Altar

Here is a humorous yet sad take on how ministering at the altar have evolved into a dark and devilish showmanship. It reminds me of my sad experience in 2004. I flew to Orlando, Florida from san francisco to attend a conference where a famous and one of my favorite preachers was speaking. On the third and final night, as he invited people to the altar, he said he would personally lay hands on everyone. Thirty minutes later he started praying for groups of 20. I found myself in one of those groups with this guy trying to knock me over by placing his foot behind my heels and with his hand on my forehead trying to push me backward. I was determine that night to give no one a courtesy fall. I removed his hand from my head after wrestling with him for at least a minute, and stepped over his foot and never went to any of his meetings again. Oh Yes! I remove my name from his mailing list and stop sending …

Great Leaders can never fail. Uh… Come Again?

You heard me! Great leaders never fail. No! I’m just kidding. I have never met a leader who doesn’t fail. We are all made of flesh and bones so we all fail from time to time. Somebody once said, “the better a man is, the more mistakes he will make.” So, I love the idea of failing forward because it conveys a positive attitude and perspective on the mistakes leaders are bound to make. Check out these quotes and get some inspiration: “Don’t buy into the notion that mistakes can somehow be avoided. They can’t be.” – John Maxwell “’Failing forward’ is the ability to get back up after you’ve been knocked down, learn from your mistake, and move forward in a better direction.” – John Maxwell “Failure is not a one-time event; it’s how you deal with life along the way. Until you breathe your last breath, you’re still in the process, and there is still time to turn things around for the better.” – John Maxwell “It’s hard to beat a person who …

So long self… I’m sorry we can’t be friends anymore

If you are celebrating any kind of victory over self, this one’s for you! Well if I come across a little bit distant It’s just because I am Things just seem to feel a little bit different You understand Believe it or not but life is not apparently About me anyways But I have met the One who really is worthy So let me say So long, self Well, it’s been fun, but I have found somebody else So long, self There’s just no room for two So you are gonna have to move So long, self Don’t take this wrong but you are wrong for me, farewell Oh well, goodbye, don’t cry So long, self Stop right there because I know what you’re thinking But no we can’t be friends And even though I know your heart is breaking This has to end And come to think of it the blame for all of this Simply falls on me For wanting something more in life than all of this Can’t you see Don’t feel …

You do not fall into sin you slide into it!

But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. James 1:14 Have you ever walked upon the skin or outer covering of a banana? It is one of the scariest and most dangerous slip and fall you will ever have. You begin with a slide. It may be a short slide, but at the end of that slide there is a very had fall. I want to use this scenario to describe how one falls into sin. First of all, no one ever wakes up in the morning and tells himself, “you know, today I feel like sinning. I feel like buying myself some crack or cocaine and just getting wasted. Or, you know I’m going to get myself a hot babe tonight and commit adultery.” But I am not sure that is the way people fall into sin. It is a long, gradual, progressive slide. A journey of …

A Great Leader leads by Example

“A leader leads by example not by force.” — Sun Tzu “Become the kind of leader that people would follow voluntarily;even if you had no title or position.” — Brian Tracy “Example is not the main thing in influencing others, it is the only thing.” — Albert Schweitzer “I think leadership comes from integrity – that you do whatever you ask others to do. I think there are non-obvious ways to lead. Just by providing a good example as a parent, a friend, a neighbor makes it possible for other people to see better ways to do things. Leadership does not need to be a dramatic, fist in the air and trumpets blaring, activity.” — Scott Berkun “Not the cry, but the flight of a wild duck, leads the flock to fly and follow.” – Proverb “Nothing so conclusively proves a man’s ability to lead others as what he does from day to day to lead himself.” — Thomas J. Watson “The older I get the less I listen to what people say and the more …

Why I love Jefferson Bethke’s Poem: Why I hate religion but love Jesus

If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations- “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” (referring to things that all perish as they are used)-according to human precepts and teachings? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.Colossians 2:20-23 On January 10, 2012 a young man named Jefferson Bethke posted this video on YouTube and within a matter of hour it went viral. When I took a listen for the first time I said to myself – “This poem is epic.” Matter of fact I still do. Within a few days of the release of this YouTube video, it came under attack from some Christian Bloggers with major following. All of a sudden, a beautiful poem became overshadowed with un-necessary noise. The noise was so loud that I think it missed …
