What good is the local Church?

Cathedral at Night by Walter Bright

The Church is universal, the Church is local.

The Church is the joyful assembly of the redeemed of all ages.

The Church is the body of Christ extended through time and space.

The holy church has two lives: one in time and the other in eternity. – Gregory the Great

The Church is the bride of Christ, even though it sometimes acts like a wayward bride

The local church is where believers are discipled, commissioned to be light of the world.

The local church is where the broken is mended, the sick healed, and where friends become friends forever.

The local church cares for the poor and fights for justice in our world.

The local church is the body of Christ, the hands and feet of the master.

The local church is where spiritual gifts are used for the common good, where believers learn to use their talents to serve others.

The local church is where the gospel is preached, sinners are saved, prayers are offered, ministers ordained, the sacraments celebrated, and a cup of cold water given in Jesus’ name. – Timothy George

You can be committed to Church but not committed to Christ, but you cannot be committed to Christ and not committed to church. – Joel Osteen

The local church is the hope of the world – Bill Hybels

I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. – Jesus Christ

    • my bad… just removed the ?mark. the quote is his. and no he is not questioning it at all. On the contrary – He really believes in the local church. The first time I saw him preach on the subject, he was passionate and almost in tears about his love for the local church – the hope of the world.
thank you for pointing that out. Hope your day is going great!

  1. The challenge in the midst of the modern religious scene is to get people to realize what the Bible teaches about the number of church’s that Jesus built. (Matthew 16:18; Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 1:22-23, 4:4)

So many people believe the church is a building, but the church is the body that people are added to when they obey the Gospel given by God – no one votes a person in, no one can create a new one, and no one has the right to have their name placed on it other than Jesus/God (Acts 2:47).

So many people want Jesus, but they don’t “want the church.” Can’t happen.
