Who said Mary didn’t know?

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart Luke 2:19 NIV I think this song is one of the most fascinating christmas songs ever. There are more than 10 very intriguing questions posed to Mary in the song. Let’s look at them: 1. Mary did you know that your baby boy would some day walk on water? 2. Mary did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters? 3. Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new? 4. This child that you’ve delivered, will soon deliver you. 5. Mary did you know that your baby boy would give sight to a blind man? 6. Mary did you know that your baby boy would calm a storm with his hand? 7. Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod? 8. And when your kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God. 9. Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation? 10. …

A Savior is Foretold

Christmas has always been about God fulfilling his promises to his people. Just like it was two thousand years ago so it is again this year. There are four promises according to this passage that God wants to release upon us this christmas. Jeremiah 33:14-16 Parallel Translation: The Promise of Justice The Promise of Righteousness The Promise of Salvation The Promise of Well-being he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely… God always keeps his promises, and as he did in time past to direct the future (Jeremiah 33:1-5), heal the land (Jeremiah 33:6-13), and fulfill the Davidic covenant (Jeremiah 33:14-26), so will he fulfill all his promises toward you at christmas. May this message create in you an expectation for great things this Christmas.

How to rise above Discouragement

Luke 7:11-17 Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.” Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. They were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.” This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country. This story is one of the saddest in the gospels. It describes the life of a single mother who had just lost her only …

Making Sense of Sandy

My Intro: In the wake of Hurricane Sandy’s devastating blow to many families and cities across America, one question that stands out and demands an answer is – where is God in this mess? In my search to make sense of the disaster, I’ve come across some very great articles. Allow me to share with you one or two. Below is an excerpt of each article and a link for further reading: What Jesus might say about Sandy By Mark Galli As usual, great weather events bring out the Christian crazies, like those proclaiming that Hurricane Sandy is God’s judgment (“God sent the whirlwind. Thank God for righteous judgment,” said one) against (pick one) homosexuals, pornography, materialism, secularism, Darwinism, and so on and so forth. But I’m not linking to these statements because, well, you’ve got better things to do with your time than read sub-Christian, one might even say non-Christian, theology. Granted when storms do appear in the Old Testament, they are often seen as God’s act of judgment, to prod repentance. The classic …

How did this world get so messed up?

Do you sometimes wonder what life is all about? Why were you born? How you can obtain true happiness? If you have ever asked these questions, then this very long post is just for you to get all you questions answered. QUESTION # 1: How Can You Know The Truth? Science, History and Observation You can learn many wonderful things about the world and its people through science, history, and observation. However, you cannot learn the answers to many of the great questions of life from these sources. They do not tell us how life began, what its purpose is, and what the future holds. The Bible Only the One who made the world can tell you how He did it and why. He tells us the truth about these things in His book, the Holy Bible. It is a book of instructions for living in this world and is proven to be historically reliable! In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Bible, Genesis 1:1) Through him all things were made; without …

Celebrate Small Stuff

The great Michelangelo once sculpted a figure out of marble as his friend stood by and watched. Well, this friend of his left for a business trip and after a while he returned and didn’t really see any significant progress in the work that Michelangelo was doing. Upon hearing the criticism of his friend, Michelangelo told him that he had indeed done some work on the marble figure by softening certain parts, straightening the lips, defining the muscles and polishing here and there on the marble figure. To his surprise, his friend said that his efforts were trifle. But Michelangelo replied, Trifles they may be, but trifles make perfection, and perfection is no trifle. Are you in the habit of celebrating the small things in your life? Do you stop and acknowledge how blessed you are? Marriages and relationships fail because spouses pay little or no attention to the little things. Believers live in fear and ingratitude because they fail to stop for a moment and count their blessings. New converts grow discouraged and sometimes …

12 Powerful words or phrases that command heaven’s attention

Part 2 The next six words or phrases I find powerful and commanding are from the very lips of Jesus. On each one of these occasions, something extraordinary happens after his declaration. Here are six of them: 7. It is finished… When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit… And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. John 19:30; Mark 15:38 8. Lazarus come out… Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God? So they took away the stone… he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out…” The man who had died came out… John 11:40-44 9. I am He… Then Jesus, knowing all that would happen to him, came forward and said to them, “Whom do you seek?”They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them. When Jesus said …

12 Powerful words or phrases that command Heaven’s Attention

Part 1 The bible say “without faith it is impossible to please God.” God is always pleased when His children exercise their faith. It attract his attention and pleases him enormously. Here are a few instances in the bible when faith caught heaven’s attention: Our God is able to deliver… Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us… and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up. Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?” Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods. Daniel 3:16-24 Just say the word… I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, …

A Biblical Perspective on Gambling

Part 2 A careful reading of Scripture makes it clear there are many biblical principles which show gambling is an evil to avoid. When people recognize God’s authority they will honor the principles which show gambling is evil. 1. Gambling is wrong because it is a disregard of responsible stewardship. The Bible clearly teaches that all things belong to God. “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” (Psalm 24:1). Since all things belong to God, people are placed in the position of stewards who must give a proper accounting for everything given to them in trust. The first step in a faithful administration of this stewardship is the giving of self to God. Believers must recognize they are not their own (1 Corinthians 6:19). They have been redeemed with a price, not of silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Jesus (1 Peter 1:18,19). The churches of Macedonia set a worthy example of personal dedication when “they gave themselves first to the Lord” (2 Corinthians 8:5). Life, with all …
