Personal Evangelism: How to share a much clearer message

I sat down for a cup of coffee at my favorite neighborhood Starbucks a few days ago and just as I did, a couple came in and sat just next to me. I promise, I wasn’t trying to listen to their conversation, but sitting that close to them, I could hear everything. She obviously had a great heart and desire to see her fiancée come to faith in Jesus. But she really didn’t know how to help him get there. I think he left a bit more confused than he came. Most of us have a passion to see our friends and loved ones come to a saving knowledge of Christ, but we often lack the ability and confidence to share our faith because we just don’t know what to say and how to say it. I would like to use Paul’s conversation here with King Agrippa to share three simple steps on what to say in your effort to share the good news with friends. Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the …

A Playlist for Mother’s 75th Birthday

My mother turns 75 years old today and her 7 children (five girls, two boys) and countless grand-children are all coming together to celebrate her life. We are coming from all over the United States for this event. She has no clue this going down. I share the news here because she doesn’t read my blog so don’t go telling. 🙂 For our trip to the East Coast, my daughters decided to put together a playlist. My mother’s name is Mozel, so they named the playlist – Mozel 75 – sounds like a cheap motel, but this lady is a class act.  So, here are the 10 songs we chose to help us celebrate the life of an extraordinary woman.. I especially dig “Mama”and “Seasons.”  Ready or not – Britt Nicole Have your way – Deitrick Haddon I feel so Alive – Capital Kings #LITO – Press Play Mama – Jaeson Ma Papa San – Get Right Seasons – Benjiman Step up – Papa San Jamaica Praise Medley – NewWorldSon – Dangerous – Group 1 Crew.  I …

100 Years of Fire

Four days ago I had the privilege of revisiting a very historic Church right in the heart of San Francisco. They kicked off a three month celebration of 100 years of fruitful ministry to the city. The senior pastors of Glad Tidings San Francisco, Forrest & Christina Beiser are my spiritual parents. With them I served the Church and the city for about four years. So I was very glad to be back. We had a special time celebrating and looking back on all the great things God had done and all the pastors and their families The Lord used in the process. Robert and Mary Craig, founders of Glad Tidings Temple and Bible Institute, were part of a religious movement that since the early 1900′s has become the largest branch of contemporary Protestantism. The history of this part of Christianity is remarkable, and so is the history of the development of Glad Tidings Church. This movement emphasized that GOD could be a part of every area of life, that GOD could be experienced, and …

You are the only Jesus some will ever see…

A few years ago Kathleen Harris wrote the song “You are the only Jesus some will ever see.” In many ways, she and a few others singing the song over the years have made the phrase very popular in Christian circles. Take a look at a few lines in the song: If not you, I wonder where will they ever find the One who really cares? If not you, how will they find the One who heals the broken heart, gives sight to the blind? If not you, I wonder who, will show them love, and love alone can make things new? If not you, how will they learn there’s one who’ll trade their hopelessness for joy in return? Cause You’re the only Jesus some will ever see You’re the only words of life, some will ever read So let them see in you the One in whom is all they’ll ever need You’re the only Jesus, some will ever see I’m sure you would agree with me that this is a great song, but …

What is the gopspel? N. T. Wright explains

Thirteen Minutes is precious time, but it will be well invested listening to what N. T. Wright has to say about the gospel. I encourage you to take a listen, you will not regret it. Who is N. T. Wright? N. T. Wright is an Anglican bishop and a leading New Testament scholar. Wright was the Bishop of Durham in the Church of England from 2003 until his retirement in 2010. He is currently Research Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at St Mary’s College, University of St Andrews in Scotland. Among modern New Testament scholars, Wright is an important proponent of traditional views on theological matters including Christ’s bodily resurrection and second coming. Further he has expressed strenuous opposition both to the ordination of openly gay Christians and the blessing of same sex partnerships and marriages as occurs in the Episcopal Church (United States). I really like him. Video Via Pangea Blog

How do I get to the post office?

In the book, The Leadership secrets of Billy Graham, W. Clement Stone writes a story about Billy Graham trying to find his way to the post office in a small town. Upon asking a boy how to get to the post office in this small town and upon getting directions he needed, Billy invited the boy to come to his meeting that evening, saying, “you will hear me telling everyone how to get to heaven.” The boy’s response was hilarious – he said, “I don’t think I will be there, you don’t even know your way to the post office.” Myra, Harold and Shelley, Marshall. The Leadership Secrets of Billy Graham. (Zondervan, 2005), page 49.
