Cowards Do Nothing!

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. Edmund Burke When it comes to evil invading a man’s life and marriage, his children’s lives, his work, and his community, the easiest thing for him to do is nothing. We are losing the battle with evil today because far too many “good” men have done just that-nothing. Doing nothing is like gravity; it just happens. Nothing is the fruit of possivity. Nothing is the consequence of a lack of conviction. It’s the by-product of lazy leadership at home. Doing nothing express no risk, exerts no initiative, and experiences no reward or truimph. Doing nothing is the natural bent of most men. Excerpts: Dennis Rainey, Stepping Up: A call to Courageous Manhood (Little Rock: FamilyLife Publishing, 2011), 113

Two Sets of Jones’ – Which one are you?

This here’s a song about two sets of Jones’ Rothchild, Evelyn, Rueben, and Sue And just for discussion through random selection We’ve chosen two couples who haven’t a clue Rothchild was lucky to marry so wealthy, Evelyn bought him a house on the beach. Rueben and Sue, they had nothing but Jesus And at night they would pray that he would care for them each Chorus: And the rain, came down, And it blew the forewalls down And the clouds they rolled away And one set of Jones’, was standing that day Evelyn’s daddy was proud of young Rothchild, He worked the late hours to be number one Just newly weds and their marriage got rocky, He’s flying to Dallas, she’s having a son. Rueben was holding, a Giddeon’s Bible, And he screamed “it’s a boy” so that everyone heard And the guys at the factory took a collection, And again God provided for bills he incured (Chorus) So what is the point of this story, What am i trying to say Well is your life …

Where are you… Where are you going?

You stir men to take pleasure in praising you, because you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until we rest in you… Andreas J. Kostenberger Page 78 of  Excellence. Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward …

Do you need a Digital Sabbatical?

Digital Sabbatical vs Digital Lifestyle Makeover I have been hearing about what some are calling a digital sabbatical over and over for the past three to four months now and I finally want to say… IDK… this one is probably not for me. The question may be asked – What is a digital sabbatical? Some say it is  Dedicating one day a week or even a whole month away from the internet, email, twitter, and other online activities.” To others, an extended sabbatical is even more appealing (Rowdykittins) They say the main reason for a DS is to have a mind cleans, a way to reclaim your time, exercise you body, and break the online dependency. But, My problem with this concept  is simple – when the weekend, the one week, one month is over, what are they going to do about the problem that made them feel like they needed a digital sabbatical in the first place? They are  going to go right back to their same old bad habits: mindless surfing, odd hours of online gaming, …

Dropping the H bomb

How little people know who think that holiness is dull. When one meets the real thing… It is irresistible. If even ten percent of the population had it, would not the world be converted and happy before a year’s end? C. S. Lewis Several years ago my spiritual father introduced something fresh, fun and honest among a group of  guys he was mentoring. He would shake your hand, than look you straight in the eye and ask you this question “are you living a holy life?” Thinking about it now, I think I will call it,  “The Accountability Hand-shake.” Within time everyone in the group was doing the same thing not only to members of the group, but to friends and love-ones. Eventually, everyone in our church community adopted the hand and look in the eye as a way to keep their friends accountable. Sometimes, our “how are you?” just don’t cut it. You usually get that – “I’m good and you?” response right back. In fact, most of our encounters as believers begin and stay …

Which Jesus do you Serve?

The Mormons call him the polygamist half-brother of lucifer… The Jehovah Witnesses call him the created arch angel Michael… The Metropolitan Tabernacle Churches claim that he endorses homosexuality and is somewhat of that tendency… The New Spirituality contents that he is part of the Christ consciousness and the cosmic divinity… Islam insist that he is not God… The Jesus I believe in is: one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only-begotten, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God; begotten, not made; being of one essence with the Father; by Whom all things were made; Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from the Heavens, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became man; And was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried; And arose again on the third day according to the Scriptures; And ascended into the Heavens, and sits at the right hand of the Father; And shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living and the …

Motivate your Favorite 17-year old to Greatness with Poetry

Billy Collins was born in New York City in 1941. He is the author of several books of poetry, including Nine Horses (Random House, 2002); Sailing Alone Around the Room: New and Selected Poems (2001); Picnic, Lightning (1998); The Art of Drowning (1995), which was a finalist for the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize; Questions About Angels (1991), which was selected by Edward Hirsch for the National Poetry Series; The Apple That Astonished Paris (1988); Video Poems (1980); and Pokerface (1977). This Poem is one of his recent works. Take a listen: In this poem he is scornfully and cynically mocking the lack of achievement of, I guess, his 17-year-old daughter, comparing the achievements of historically very accomplished youths like  Jane Grey, Judy Garland and Joan of Arc to the 17 year old’s strong inclination to playing with her food and her hair. I found this to be a very gentle and humorous way to challenge under achieving teenagers. Instead of having those uncalled for screaming matches. You can listen to this with your teenager and just let …

EGO – The Final Episode

The story and book of Jonah closes with a question that actually is left unanswered. I believe that is was left unanswered for one reason – for readers to answer the question. What is the question? And should not I pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle? Let’s put the question in perspective. After Jonah preaches to Nineveh and the city repents, Jonah is mad.  Jonah went out of the city and sat to the east of the city and made a booth for himself there. He sat under it in the shade, till he should see what would become of the city. Now the LORD God appointed a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to save him from his discomfort. So Jonah was exceedingly glad because of the plant. But when dawn came up the next day, God appointed a worm that attacked the …
