Preeminent Worship

Worship songs nowadays are becoming more about- breakthroughs, miracles signs, and wonders.  That’s good, but not good enough! In other cases, worship has become more about the worship leader – his/her talent:  how he/she sounds how he/she looks is the song current or fire etc… The magnificence and grandeur of Jesus is the last thing we consider – if we ever do, for a worship set.  We want the glory of the Lord to be made manifest in and through worship – but we fail to  invoke  His redemption work, the wonder of the cross, and the awe inspiring splendor of Jesus.  No matter why He never shows up in His fullness, and the worshipper left wanting for more.  When you sing or lead the church in praise of Jesus, let His life, death, and resurrection- His current ministry and His forever reign – take priority , and be the center attraction . Only then can we elevate worship to the place it needs to be. I would argue – that everything aforementioned – (breakthroughs, …

Let no flesh glory in His presence

It was the summer of 2001, over 2000 worshiper had gathered on a beautiful Sunday morning. The musical group was up – ready to start worship. The lead pastors were standing behind the musical group (old school) up on the platform. Everyone of them fired up and ready to serve the congregation. Not to mention, they looked good in their suit and tie. The atmosphere was charged with the supernatural presence of God, you could reach out and literally touch it. All eyes were on the King of kings until the worship leader turned around from facing the congregation toward to drummer who was immediate behind him. It was a horrible sight to see, in an outburst of anger he scolded the drummer for missing a beat and not coming in where he was supposed to. From that point on, everything went downhill. The presence of God lifted and the expression on the pastors’ faces was nothing less than disappointing. The worship pastor, well, that was me. I really don’t know what happened to me …

Falling in Love with Jesus

Hi everyone, I was doing some sound check with our new video camera singing this song. The voice, sound and light is not perfect – and neither am I, but I love the Lord with all my heart. May He bring you assurance today and may He cause you to feel His protection and love as I sing this over you!

One Word Wednesday: Worship

God is not impressed with a ‘song service.’ God is not pleased with lip service either. Singing lips but far away hearts. God is terribly appalled by worshipers who love worship more than they love the only one who is worthy. God does not want praises from mouths hearts of perversity and mouths of profanity. God hates platitudes and our Pharisaical Posturing  void of reverence and crazy love for Him. God is not interested in how you look when you worship but that praise looks good on you. The English language, in reality falls short to adequately describe what God really intended to teach when it comes to the word. For lack of a better word, the translators of our bible could not really find an accurate word to express the heart of God when John wrote the following in his gospel: But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. John 4:23 …

God owns everything but these

I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer. But I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens. For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it. Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats? Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.” (Psalms50:8-15 NLT) I have always heard it said, “God doesn’t need anything from us.” But today I will shock you by telling you that is a false statement. Even thought God owns everything, in His infinite wisdom, He has given away His ability to control, …

Do not be a spectator – be a participator

When it comes to worshiping the Lord according to the book (Bible), all I hear sometimes is a bunch of excuses: It is not my personality I am too shy, plus I don’t want to draw attention to myself I don’t want to embarrass myself, my friends are looking I don’t have to shout, dance, jump, or clap to actually praise God I don’t want to be like one of those show offs I think sometimes people can be a little too stiff in church, a bit too dignified and too concerned about themselves instead of following the book on worship. So the question here is – Is it possible that having or showing a composed or serious manner that is worthy of respect in church, especially in the area of our attitude to praise and worship, can sometimes hinder us from truly experiencing the fullness of the abundant life we have in Christ? There are seven words in the scripture that define what praise and worship should really look like. Seven in the scripture …

Benefits of Genuine Worship/ Part 4

Worship increases spiritual strength and endurance in the life of the worshiper Isaiah 40:28-31 says, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” I don’t know about you, but from time to time I find myself in that place of exhaustion. Sometimes I lack the courage and strength to make progress.  But through worship life begins to make sense again. Speaking to a group of weary and fainting believers, the Hebrews writer encouraged them to “lift your drooping hands and strengthen weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so …

Benefits of Genuine Worship/ Part 3

Freedom Reigns I want to thank the Lord because every opportunity we get to meet with him and worship him is an opportunity for him to release into our lives all of His goodness. I pray that on this independence day, we can all tap into the freedom that comes from pure and genuine worship. Worship brings freedom to the life of the worshiper John 4:23 says, “The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” For genuine worship to happen it must be done in Spirit and Truth. In fact, it is safe to say that the only kind of worship that pleases God is one done in Spirit and Truth. God is actively seeking a certain kind of worshipper. Only those who worship in Spirit and Truth qualify. Everything else is worthless. There must be a reason God chose worship in Spirit and Truth as the keys to having a genuine worship …

Benefits fo Genuine Worship/ Part 2

Every opportunity we have to meet with and worship God is an opportunity for God to release into our lives all of His goodness. When He shows up, he comes with healing, deliverance, and power. Worship releases God’s promise I remember hearing an old preacher many years ago saying the following… “praise is the plow that prepares the heart for the planting of the promises of God.” – Psalm 103:1-5 says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” Sometimes, before there is a healing, a deliverance, a releasing of love and mercy or the comforting presence of God, there must be worship. This is one of the easiest ways to walk in God’s blessings. Heartfelt, genuine worship of the King. Worship has …
