Top five (5) Things that Paralyze a Leader

Lack of prayer power… Allen Vartlette once said that “seven days without prayer makes one weak.” A prayerless leader is a paralyzed leader. He has no power to lead. He has no inspiration to lead. He has nothing to move him forward. I don’t know where we got this prideful thinking that we are more creative than God himself is. We go about doing things without him. Prayer makes a world of difference in our decision making process. It makes a world of difference in our leadership abilities. I wish that we could take it a bit more seriously. Because prayer avails much… James 5:16 Lack of courage… “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” Edmund Burke Doing nothing express no risk, exerts no initiative, and experiences no reward or truimph. Doing nothing is the natural bent of most men. Nothing is the fruit of passivity. Nothing is the consequence of a lack of conviction. It’s the by-product of lazy leadership at home, at church and in …

Entitlement Issues

Limited in mind, limited in body, ruler of our own domain.Claim false authority, like we’re the ones who rule and reign. The mentality of the majority is more than metaphorically morphing into a misinformed form of who we were born to be. Torn between, blind perception and divine reality. Torn at the seems, our dreams are built on a faulty foundation of fallacy. This will be our fatality, it’s simply a formality. See the casualties of war laid on the floor of the battle scene. We worship how we feel, we don’t worship who we should. Yeah we got it bad, and if God calls it bad we call it good. We covet what others have, grab whatever we can, whatever we want, we think it belongs in the palm of our hands, going along with a song and a dance. Worshipping idols to fulfill our entitlement issues. Addicted to the feeling we get when we get what we want so we pick and we choose. Even the air we breath is a gift we …

I Desire Mercy Not Sacrifice – Go And Learn What This Means.

Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” I desire mercy and not sacrifice – Go and learn what that means! Matthew 9:13 The questions we need to ask ourselves as we consider Jesus’ command to “go and learn” are as follows: 1. What is stopping us from befriending unbelievers? 2. What are we afraid of? 3. What do we have to lose? 4. Who said we couldn’t have worldly friends? I moved up to northern California six years ago from San francisco, and every time I tell a friend that I am going back for vacation or for a visit, I get several reactions. Sometimes I hear – “oh boy, when I visited that place a few years ago, I felt the spiritual oppression just fall on me.” Other times I get the – “man I will be praying for you, I hope fire and brimstone don’t fall while you are there.” Even still, I get a question – “what …

How to work for Google Earth in a hurry!

A few days ago, George and Lu Sigalas, a husband and wife and members of our church invited my family to spend 4th of July with them in the hills of San Jose, California. We accept promptly. I was thinking, free food a swimming pool and a magnificent view for the fireworks later that evening. We made it up the mountain and began to mingle  with the people at the house. George and Lu introduced his nephew and his wife the owners of the house in the hills. The kids jumped into the pool and my wife and I began checking out the finger foods on the tables. While we stood there a gentleman came over and got a plate of meatballs, he said hi and went back to his seat. A few minutes later he came back and got another plate. At this time we realized the  meatballs must have been really good. So we went over and got some too. While we stood around talking this gentleman reached out and introduced himself as Michael. …

Code of Ethics for Pastor

We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. (2 Corinthians 6:3) Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. (Philippians 1:27) All who are called by God to the ministry of the gospel solemnly commit to a life of joyful obedience and selfless service in order to glorify God and enrich his people. Therefore, a minister will: Pursue Integrity I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. (1 Chronicles 29:17) • in personal character. Exalt Christ, not self. Be honest, not exaggerating or overpromising; peace-loving, not contentious; patient, not volatile; diligent, not slothful. Avoid and, when necessary, report conflicts of interest and seek counsel. • in personal care. Care for the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical dimensions of your person, for “your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:19). • in preaching and teaching. Interpret the Bible accurately and apply it discerningly: …

Spare the Rod Spoil the Child: What the Bible really says about Discipline

Three days ago police in Fayetteville County, GA arrested the senior pastor of World Changers Internation Church on simple battery charges. Video In a Sunday morning speech to his congregation, Pastor Dollar said that the accusations about him choking punching and kicking his 15 year old daughter are completely false, and anything else is “exaggeration and sensationalization.” The pastor than went on to talk about the challenges of parenting. So today I would like for us to explore with Chip Ingrram what the bible says about this challenge. Seizing the Moment!

There comes into the life of every man a task for which he and he alone is uniquely suited. What a shame if that moment finds him either unwilling or unprepared for that which would become his finest hour. Winston Churchill What are you built for? What is your mission? What is your calling…? What is your purpose, your destiny? Like Churchill, there was a young woman in the bible who seized the moment when it arose. Her name was Esther Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, “Do not think to yourself that in the king’s palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews. For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, “Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast …

Cowards Do Nothing!

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. Edmund Burke When it comes to evil invading a man’s life and marriage, his children’s lives, his work, and his community, the easiest thing for him to do is nothing. We are losing the battle with evil today because far too many “good” men have done just that-nothing. Doing nothing is like gravity; it just happens. Nothing is the fruit of possivity. Nothing is the consequence of a lack of conviction. It’s the by-product of lazy leadership at home. Doing nothing express no risk, exerts no initiative, and experiences no reward or truimph. Doing nothing is the natural bent of most men. Excerpts: Dennis Rainey, Stepping Up: A call to Courageous Manhood (Little Rock: FamilyLife Publishing, 2011), 113

Edging God Out – Third Episode

But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? 1 John 3:17 If there is anything that will take you down faster than anything else in life, it will be to withhold compassion and generosity from people around you. Here is yet another reason why we don’t want to be like Jonah. We’ve said that egoism is “inordinate concern for One’s welfare and interest.” And Jonah was a man completely devoted to his own interest. His thinking, feeling and acting were all driven by and devoted to himself. A lifestyle the bible counsels against. When the sailors were worried about their lives and when they were face to face with death, this guy, Jonah, was sound asleep, worried free… He demanded that God takes his life when the lives of 120,000 souls hung in the balance. Here is lesson #3:  Do not look only to your own interest! We are called to loose the bounds of wickedness We are …
