One of the fundamental truths about the kingdom of God, the church or believers is that that kingdom, church, the believer always seems to thrive or triumph or win even in the midst of intense opposition. Jesus left us these promises – He said: “I will build my church and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.” “The Kingdom of God shall advance and the voilent shall take it by force.” “If God is for us who can be against us?” Nehemiah reminds us in chapter 4 about a few things we need to do when faced with opposition.  And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Healing is a mystery. It is above my pay grade. I don’t know all the reasons why things happen or don’t happen. My job is to show up and pray in the name of Jesus. The Story This is a story we are all very familiar with… the story of the children of Israel before they actually entered the promise land. Every opportunity we have to meet with and worship God is an opportunity for God to release into our lives all of His goodness. When He shows up, he comes with healing, deliverance, and power. Worship releases God’s promise I remember hearing an old preacher many years ago saying the following… “praise is the plow that prepares the heart for the planting of the promises of God.” – Psalm 103:1-5 says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” Sometimes, before there is a healing, a deliverance, a releasing of love and mercy or the comforting presence of God, there must be worship. So that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. Hebrews 6:18 How certain are the promises of God? The writer of the book of Hebrews claims that the certainty of God’s promises are guaranteed by God’s own perfectly trustworthy character. To illustrate this and prove the certainty of God’s promises, the writer uses Abraham as an example of one who through faith and much patience inherited the promises of God. As if that illustration was not enough, the writer makes a bold statement about two unchangeable things about God. What are they? And how important are they? Usually when they want something for christmas or a birthday or just anything they really want – they come up with a brilliant idea. I think it is a sign of how intelligent and smart they are. After asking for what ever they want – they than follow-up with a very important question – do you promise? Trust me – they never let go unless the question is followed by an absolute ‘yes’.
