From Prison to Prime Minister: 7 principles for divine favor

When we read the bible, especially ancient stories like that of Joseph, the first question that comes to mind is – is this applicable in my life, is this relevant for our time? The answer to those questions is very simple. God made sure that what is recorded in the scripture will transcend time and minister to subsequent generations. If it worked for them, it will work for us. So “Yes”, God can raise you up from nothing. He can elevate you beyond your qualifications. He can promote you and cause you to be more influential than your peers. Let me share with you 7 Principles about how that can come about: Destiny Destiny is not necessarily where we can take ourselves but where God can take us. It is the prophetic promise on our live. It is his dream not ours. However we need to embrace his plan and align our lives with it. Joseph held dearly unto every revelation God gave to him. He wrapped his entire life around it and it lifted …

Like a fire burning in my bones

You’ve been here before, searching, looking, burning the midnight oil, tossing and turning on your bed, searching for answers and still can’t come up with anything. You are looking for that one thing that will turn your life around. You feel stuck and life is dull. You’ve tried everything, yet, you are still bored to death. Your 9 to 5 or 5 -9 isn’t cutting it for you. You want more. You are hoping that something will click inside of you, wake you up and propel you toward your destiny. But, the only thing missing is your definition of the one thing that moves you, the one thing that makes sense, that one thing that gets you fired up. When Michael Jordan turned 50, ESPN Magazine ran an extended essay/interview about Jordan’s continuing obsession (or idolatry) with the best days of his basketball career. The article stated: [Jordan’s] self-esteem has always been, as he says, “tied directly to the game.” Without it, he feels adrift. Who am I? What am I doing? For the past 10 years, since …

In our world no one is rubbish

Spend a few days on Africa Mercy Ship and you will see how two worlds collide at the intersection of courage and compassion. I lived in Togo for about 8 years as a missionary. So I am very pleased to see Mercy Ship back in Togo. The story of few doctors and nurses reaching, serving and touching lives of people who have been utterly rejected and labelled rubbish. Take a few minutes of your time and watch this video you will not regret it. Their story was featured in ’60 Minutes’ which aired Sunday Night on CBS. This is what the Christians are all about – looking right into the eyes of the hurting and ostracized to say “you are God’s child – and you are not rubbish.” This one is for all my SISTAS who were told that they are damaged goods… that is a lie straight from hell. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Ignite

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. NIV Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord. KJV Romans 12:11 The word Slothful/Lazy means to hesitate, to be slow. Slow and “poky” as in Matthew 25:26… “you wicked lazy slave… A lazy Christian is a contradiction of terms. Having been saved from the guilt and ravages of sin, the Christian is man at the zenith of his best powers. Strength, zeal, enthusiasm, vigor, and the full thrust of his total energy should distinguish the Christian’s performance in business, trade, profession, study, artistic creation, or in anything else that he pursues as a vocation; and, above everything, such qualities should characterize his devotion and service in the church. The opposite of what Paul commanded here is lukewarmness, a negative condition represented as disgusting to God himself (Revelation 3:16). Coffman’s Commentary I believe what God desires and applauds  in a believer is his or her passion and zeal not only for the things of God but for God himself. Here are four …

Chariots of Firing you up for God/ Part 1

With the London Olympic Games approaching, Chariots of Fire, the 1981 Best Picture Oscar-winner and perennial family favorite, is back. I read somewhere that the movie is being shown all over london in order to put people in the spirit of the Olympics and recapturing their imagination. I thought it was a brilliant idea, so I too am going to be watching the movie at least once a week for the duration of the Olympics. My motivation is of course is to improve my spiritual skills to compete in this race that I am in. I want to fire myself up, bringing my running to a whole new level. For those of you unfamiliar with or have forgotten the story, Harold Abrahams was an English Jew who overcame the ingrained anti-Semitism of the British establishment, while Eric Liddell was a committed Scottish Christian and son of missionaries to China who refused to run the 100 meter sprint – because it fell on a Sunday. He however went on to win gold in the 400 meters. …
