A Playlist for Mother’s 75th Birthday

My mother turns 75 years old today and her 7 children (five girls, two boys) and countless grand-children are all coming together to celebrate her life. We are coming from all over the United States for this event. She has no clue this going down. I share the news here because she doesn’t read my blog so don’t go telling. 🙂 For our trip to the East Coast, my daughters decided to put together a playlist. My mother’s name is Mozel, so they named the playlist – Mozel 75 – sounds like a cheap motel, but this lady is a class act.  So, here are the 10 songs we chose to help us celebrate the life of an extraordinary woman.. I especially dig “Mama”and “Seasons.”  Ready or not – Britt Nicole Have your way – Deitrick Haddon I feel so Alive – Capital Kings #LITO – Press Play Mama – Jaeson Ma Papa San – Get Right Seasons – Benjiman Step up – Papa San Jamaica Praise Medley – NewWorldSon – Dangerous – Group 1 Crew.  I …

An album you can argue with

By Joe Thorn: Propaganda is one of the hip hop artists on the Humble Beast label. You may have seen his spoken word piece, G.O.S.P.E.L. You may have heard his earlier album, or even seen him perform live. But you probably haven’t heard his newest album yet. Excellent is dropping on September 25th, , and I’ll be honest-some of you aren’t ready for it. It’s too different, too much—too hard. And I don’t mean hard like it will blow your hair back. I mean this album is hard in its content, confrontation, and cause. It’s an album that will stir you and challenge you. If you try to just kick back and easily enjoy it you just might find yourself unprepared to wrestle with Propaganda’s grave, yet gracious words. You have to listen to Excellent like you’re supposed to listen to a person, not like one might mindlessly listen to your average pop album. You need to listen to this album to understand, not just enjoy. If you do the former, you’ll get the latter. …

Raping the Innocence of Generation Z (revisited)

Raping the Innocence of Generation Z (revisited). Vai – ChurchRelevance Generation Z is still undefined but could loosely be labeled those born from 1996 to today. In 2009, we highlighted University of Pittsburgh’s research discovering the connection between musical lyrics and sexual activity. Lyrics Influence Teens Exposure to lyrics describing degrading sex was one of the strongest associations with sexual activity. Compared to those with the least exposure to lyrics describing degrading sex, those with the most exposure were more than twice as likely to have had sexual intercourse. Similarly, among those who had not had sexual intercourse, those in the highest third of exposure to lyrics describing degrading sex were nearly twice as likely to have progressed along a noncoital sexual continuum compared to those in the lowest third. Movies Influence Teens Now 3 years later, there is new research linking movie consumption to sexual behavior. Psychological Science will soon be publishing a 6-year study by Ross O’Hara while at Dartmouth College that states: Much research has shown that adolescents’ sexual attitudes and behaviors are influenced by media, but the role …

God, Love, Romance

I bought Fred Hammond’s new project the other day and I love it that he took on a project that addresses the issue of love and romance in the life of the believer. The album is musically sound as always and a new thing on this record that truly sets it apart is the dramatizations interposed throughout the album. It is jam-packed with real-life stories. Some of the tracks you might want to look for are: “I’m in love with you” “Amazing love” “You are going to make it” “Love song to the lamb” Some of the dramatization I think you will love: “So you just gown to leave” “Girls night out/Out take” “Write something for me” “Love will find you” The style: R&B – Urban Gospel This is a two CD Set with comment on the ups and downs in relationships – with slow and smooth R&B groves on disc one and some power packed urban gospel praise on the second disc. This an unforgettable musical experience. Get a Copy Here Walter Bright
