10 Greatest OT Speeches that Moved a Generation

We’ve all been touched and moved by the words of others: A speech by our favorite political icon A sermon by our favorite preacher A lecture by our favorite professor Or, the charisma of our favorite actor. Their words captured our imagination, transported us to another world. Their words made us feel like we could change the world, even if it meant laying down our very lives. My personal favorite is Mel Gibson in Braveheart: They can take our lives, but they will never take our freedom. Similarly, when we look at scriptures, we find some incredibly moving rally cries. Defining moments that moved a generation. Here are my personal favorites. I hope you find them compelling as I do. Elijah Generation “Then Elijah stood in front of them and said, “How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!” But the people were completely silent… Elijah the prophet walked up to the altar and prayed, “O LORD, prove …

Some Days You eat the bear – Other Days the bear eats you

A few years ago, Billy Collins wrote a masterpiece called “Some Days.” Some Days you eat the bear and other days the bear eats you is Collin’s poetic explanation of the piece. In it he asks the question: “How would you like it if you never knew from one day to the next if you were going to spend it striding around like a vivid god, your shoulders in the clouds, or sitting down there amidst the wallpaper, staring straight ahead with your little plastic face?” In essence, what he is saying is, Some Days you are at the top of your game – other days you are not. Some Days, as a writer, speaker, singer, preacher, parent, a Christian, leader, professional, athlete – you are on top of the world, but other days you are dull, uninspired, bored, creatively challenged, down, depressed – at a wall. How do you deal with this kind of emotional roller coaster? How do you manage to stay focus, and keep a sound mind when you are feeling dry, less inspired than …

Lead to Inspire

“A leader is a dealer in hope.” — Napoleon Bonaparte “Nobody rises to low expectations.” — Calvin Lloyd “A person, who no matter how desperate the situation, gives others hope, is a true leader.” — Daisaku Ikeda “One cannot consent to creep when one feels the impulse to soar.” — Helen Keller “If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people together to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.” — Antoine de Saint-Exupery “Good leaders make people feel that they’re at the very heart of things, not at the periphery. Everyone feels that he or she makes a difference to the success of the organization. When that happens, people feel centered and that gives their work meaning.” — Warren Bennis “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” — John Quincy Adams “Lead and inspire people. Don’t try to manage and manipulate people. Inventories can be managed but …

The curse of Generational curse

The idea of a generational curse has captured the thinking of many Christians because it sounds so reasonable. Without doubt, parents have an influence on their children through inherited traits and parental teaching and example. But God holds individuals responsible for their choices and sins, not the sins of ancestors. The biblical passage on which the extreme teaching of generational curses is based must be revisited in order to see how Scripture has been misapplied. Instructing the Israelites concerning the second commandment, God said, You shall not bow down to them [idols and other gods] or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generationsof those who love me and keep my commandments (Exodus 20:5,6). Let’s unpack the verse by sharing some arguments against generational curse that I find compelling: – The word “curse” is nowhere found in the Exodus passage. -If the punishment God …

Ladies and gentlemen – i give you – The Blade Runner

For All You Quitters It’s not that I don’t want to run Paralympic or disabled races, or races for those athletes who are handicapped, or amputees, but this is just a challenge for me, and any good sportsman that wants to be better has to face up to challenges that aren’t always as easy as some of the others. Oscar Pistorius South African Runner Born in Johannesburg, Pistorius was 11 months old when he was diagnosed with congenital absence of the fibula in both legs and had them amputated halfway between his knees and ankles. Undeterred in his athletic determination, he grew up playing rugby, water polo, tennis and wrestling; in 2004, after an injury, he was introduced to running and fell in love, soon competing in both Paralympic and able-bodied events. In a few weeks, he will become the first double amputee runner in the history of the Olympic games. I don’t know what your limitations are, but I know that with God, “you can run against a troop, and by my God you …
