Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live. Jim Rohn 1 Corinthians 6:19, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,” I can’t help but notice the question in the verse above. Do you not know? Obviously, Paul’s hearers didn’t know because they were living in such a way that prove they didn’t. So he had to remind them that, indeed, their bodies were the temple of the Holy Spirit. When we come to faith in Jesus Christ, we become the place of God’s dwelling. He comes by His Holy Spirit and makes a home within us. What that means is, now that He has come to dwell inside of us, we must allow him to clean house so He can actually reside. We can no longer bring in other tenants that are incompatible with the Holy Spirit’s presence because our bodies are now temples of the Holy Spirit. Dig Deeper: …

Somewhere along the way we learned that through humble prayer and pursuit, radical consecration, deep worship and diligent study of God’s word, we can experience His supernatural power – and rightly so. As a result, we run after the Holy Spirit just for Him to make us look good, successful, anointed and powerful. We run after Him just so He can help us teach with power, lead extraordinarily, and do “greater things.” I believe it’s about time we start running after the Holy Spirit not because of the comfort he brings; the needs he meet; the dreams He fulfill or the power He gives, but simply because of who He is – God – deserving of our pursuit, our worship, our longing and our honor. When we wait for Him – we wait not because we want to take, but because we want to give Him our very lives. In most churches there is a time for congregants to gather at the altar for a time of prayer. Usually in response to a message people will voluntarily come forward to receive a blessing, a touch from God or simply to consecrate themselves either for the first time as a new believer or for some a deeper walk with the Lord. An altar junkie would be a person who ceases every opportunity to spend time with the Lord at the altar. They are like the Sparrow who finds a home; the Swallow who builds a nest at the altar of the Lord and raises its young right there. Like those who dwell in His house ever singing his praise. They are like doorkeepers/gatekeepers in the house of the Lord. They understand that “better is one day at the altar than a thousand elsewhere.” Unfortunately, there is a misconception among many believers about spending time at the alter. So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
