Day #6: I am a friend of God!

A friend of Jesus, Oh what bliss! That one so weak as I should ever have a Friend like Him to lead me to the sky. Joseph C. Ludgate

“No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15
We used to sing a song back in the day called, “As the Deer.” There is a line in it that went like this: “You’re my friend and you are my brother even though You are a King.” Can you imagine, the maker of the universe, the most-high, the author of life, the judge of the living and the dead calls us His friend?
That’s exactly who we are – friends of God. We are friends not just on good days. He calls us friends even on my not so good days.
The best example in the bible to validate the claim that God calls us friends is that of Abraham’s. God knew about his lies and his deceptions and all is evil ways, yet God called him a friend.
This should brings a lot of hope and relief to us:
If God did not end His friendship with Abraham because of His evil deeds, I don’t think He will with us. Being a friend is a gift that is bestowed upon us. It is the unmerited favor of God lavished upon us.
We know we are not perfect, yet God, the God of the universe calls us friends. We are no longer a servant – We are friends of God!
Prayer:
Father, I want to thank you because you know me so well, yet you call me a friend. Thank you because your friendship does not depend on my performance but on your love and faithfulness. When other friendships disappoint give me joy and peace. When sadness or sickness lay me low, help me and cheer me up. In Jesus Name – Amen!
