There was a wealthy lady who died, and everybody in the community was extremely curious as to the extent of her fortune. One person was brash enough to come up to the pastor immediately after the funeral and whisper in his ear, “How much did she leave?” The pastor had the wisdom to reply, “She left everything.”
The apostle Paul also calls us to a lifestyle of simplicity and contentment.
I have learned,” he said, “in whatever state I am therewith to be content
Paul said,
Godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into this world and we shall take nothing out of it.
Or as Job put it,
Naked I came from my mother’s womb and naked I shall return.
Have you ever considered, brothers and sisters, that human life is a pilgrimage between two moments of nakedness? We would be wise to travel light because there is no doubt that we shall leave everything behind.
Let us be content. Covetous people always fall into a traps.
The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.
Let us always remember that we are pilgrims and where ever our heart is there our treasure will also be.

Love this. Once when I had my kids in the car, we followed a hearse to the cemetery. I promised a quarter to the kid who spotted the U-Haul first. Of course there wasn’t one…and I gave them each a quarter anyway! A few weeks later, we passed the funeral home. There, to my chagrin, was a Ryder Van…right behind the hearse! Oh well, I tried.

hahaha! That’s a good one… thanks for your insight. I have never seen a U-Haul attached to a hearse either. I guess we can’t take it with us.

I love this. Brings to mind this question (I forget where I heard or read it tho) “So what are you going to do with your dash?” My dash? Whatever do you mean? you might ask. That dash between the birth date and death date on your headstone.

that is a great question. Our church did a 40 days of life few years ago and we used the curriculum that was writen by pastor terry shook called “living the dash.” was a good one.

I like this post very much. So much of our world and society emphasizes possessions and the here and now. We can’t take anything with us…. Great thoughts. (And I hadn’t exactly thought of it in that light before, either!)

A good perspective on our human life – a pilgrimage between two moments of nakedness. In the Old Testament there’s something similar saying that we come naked out of our mother and we go naked back into the ground.
The only valuable thing we can gain on earth is Christ. Christ is the treasure – we’re the earthen vessel. The more Christ we gain, the more we will disregard and even reject other things in this world, until Christ becomes our everything. So… let’s gain Christ today!
