Lost and found column: The lost sheep

Part 1

I love reading the book of Luke. Chapter 15 is one of my favorite chapters in the entire book. Some people refer to it as the Lost and found Column of the Bible. That is because in this chapter we find three different parables: The parable of the lost sheep, the parable of the lost silver (coin) and the parable of the lost son. In this first column we are going to focus on the lost sheep.

Then Jesus told them this parable:“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. Luke 15:3-7

If you were the only person in the entire world, God would have still lavished his amazing love through Jesus Christ on you. Jesus would have still gone to the cross and died for you. And the rejoicing would have still been as loud as it is whenever a sinner comes to saving grace. That’s how valuable you are… that’s how much he loves you.
