Wear the Pants – Men

Once upon a time, men wore the pants, and wore them well. Women rarely had to open doors and little old ladies never had to cross the street alone. Men took charge because that’s what they did. But somewhere along the way the world decided it no longer needed men. Disco by disco, latte by foamy non-fat latte, men were stripped of their khakis and left stranded on the road between boyhood and androgyny. But today there are questions our genderless society has no answers for. The world sits idly by as cities crumble, children misbehave and those little old ladies remain on one side of the street. For the first time since bad guys, we need heroes. We need grown ups. We need men to put down the plastic fork, step away from the salad bar, and untie the world from the tracks of complacency. It’s time to get your hands dirty. It’s time to answer the call of manhood. It’s time to wear the pants.

Men are built not to spectate, be passive, absent, disengaged. They are built to initiate, lead, and take responsibility for their families. And all the ladies say Amen!

Here is what it looks like:

  • Wear the pants and be a provider financially
  • Wear the pants as spiritual leader…prayer, bible study, and church.
  • Wear the pants as a mentor to your kids…investing time in the lives of his children.
  • Wear the pants as a protector…not only from physical dangers, but online as well.
  • Wear the pants as a servant leader..helps with chores and homework.
  • Wear the pants as an example for your wife and kids to follow… He lives what he teaches and models what he demands of others in the family.  A few days ago my 12-year-old daughter came to the and asked me – “dad how old are you?” I said, “I’m 40.” Than she pointed to the refrigerator and said is that what a 40-year-old does. I had left the door of the refrigerator open. You see, a few hours earlier, she left the very door open and I called and asked her, “how old are you?” She said, “I am 12.” I said to her, “is that what a 12 year old does?” So what was she trying to say? She was trying to say… “Daddy, you need to model what you teach.”

That’s what it means to be a man… The essence of true manhood… That’s what the it means to wear the pants.

This is so true in today’s society men has been displaced within the home but it has a lot to do with theres no longer any distinction of what the role of female and male responsibilities within the home.

  3. AMEN, AMEN, and AMEN!!! My fave part…”Men are built not to spectate, be passive, absent, disengaged. They are built to initiate, lead, and take responsibility for their families. And all the ladies say Amen!” Great post. We need to get back to the basics, where it all started. As years have come and gone so have our family priorities, our morals, our expectations of each other. We have stopped living the way God intended, the blue print he left for us has been shoved in the corner, tossed in the waist basket and thrown away as if we know better. One thing I think is important also is not just that men need to wear the pants, but women need to take the pants off and let their men be men.

    • I’m with the comment above. That was my absolute favorite part. The competition between men and women that is now a part of the fabric of our western world is so damaging. Instead of complementing, we’re competing. Thanks for a great post.
