Part 3
We have shared some quotes from Greg Gilbert’s – What is the Gospel. Thanks to all of you for you comments. I would like to share just a few more quotes from the book. I hope you find something thought-provoking, after all this is the purpose of the post – to get you thinking critically about what you have come to believe about the gospel..
Take the last 5 quotes
Repentance is more fundamentally a matter of the heart’s attitude toward sin than it is a mere change of behavior.
He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose. This is actually a quote from Jim Elliot, the missionary.
One of the greatest dangers the body of Christ faces today is the temptation to rethink and rearticulate the gospel in a way that makes its center something other than the death of Jesus on the cross in the place of sinners.
At the end of the day, I wonder if the impulse to shove the cross out of the center of the gospel comes from bare fact that the world just doesn’t like the cross. At best they think it is ridiculous fairy tale, and at worst, a monstrous lie. Really, that shouldn’t surprise us.
Christian can always get the world to think they are cool-right up to the moment they start talking about being saved by a crucified man. That’s where coolness evaporates, no matter how carefully you’ve cultivated it.
Conclusion
Will my Jesus ever be accepted in you church? I am talking about the one with blood and dirt on his feet. Or would you be afraid that the blood pouring out might stain the carpet? I am using a line from one of Todd Agnew songs – My Jesus.
Is your church comfortable preaching about this bloody cross? Is it a part of the gospel you accept and preached at your church?
There is a great need for the church in America to return to the fundamentals. We need to preach the Cross, the blood of Christ, and the forgiveness found through His work on our behalf.
May God richly bless you and your ministry on His behalf.

Committement to preaching the whole counsel of God is key. We are a nation that crave new things; we often talk about the next big thing, but sometimes the church falls in the trap of wanting to do new and innovative things. They say, let’s rethink and try to rearticulate the gospel, but so often the core message of the gospel gets water down and compromised. So committment to preaching the whole truth is crucial. Thanks for the comment. See on you on your blog!
