The Secret of the Scarecrow!
about harvest – am crazy about the outcome of seed sowing. Don’t bore me to death about fertilizers, and watering and pruning and keeping out the weeds; just tell me when it’s time to pluck that peach, slice that mango or roast the corn. Just tell me about the harvest.
In other words it is in God’s plan to make you productive in every sphere of your life. For the pastor he wants effectiveness in his personal, spiritual, vocational life. For the business man/woman He has planned success and productivity. For the student He wants you to do
well in school and eventually do well in the marketplace and advance in career. If you’re married He wants to bless you with not only a child if you are seeking one, but also with a loving and enduring relationship. He wants you to reap a harvest in His time.
One thing I have come to understand about farming and harvesting though, is that harvest is highly coveted not only by the farmer but also by his potential enemies. It is therefore every farmer’s duty to protect his harvest from these potential enemies – the snare of the Fowler, the deadly pestilence, the destruction that wastes at noonday etc…
A wise farmer understands that harvest is valuable to him, so he puts a scarecrow on the most productive part of his land. That is because he knows that’s exactly where his enemies are going to focus their most aggressive attacks. Farmers don’t put scarecrows on parts of the land that are not productive.
So at the end of the day the farmer wins because the birds of the air are not smart enough to understand that the scarecrow is just like an idol that cannot speak. That it was transported there by the farmer. It can do him no harm whatsoever, and he need not be afraid of it.
The Bible says in Jeremiah chapter 10 and verse number 5:
Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good
Maybe some of you ought to ask yourselves the question – why is the enemy fighting me so hard and erecting scarecrow threats and intimidation in my life?” Why is he trying to stop me? What is it in my future that the enemy seems to know about that he is doing everything in his power to hinder me?
I guess, if you were doing nothing great, if God didn’t have some awesome harvest in store for you – he (satan) wouldn’t be interested in you. But he knows your harvest is on the way – he knows you are taking or going to take territories for Jesus, bring demonic kingdoms down, and impact your world. He knows what God wants to do through you is great, so he is doing everything to stop you, to keep you out of your Sunday school classroom, keep you out of the market place, to keep you from getting a job, to keep you from fulfilling your ministry and call on your life.
But I want to urge you today to pick up your swore and get smart – the devil’s attack can do you no harm – “for no weapon fashion against you shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17). Fear not because “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, love and a sound mind.” (2 Tim 1:17). Draw your sword your harvest is on the way.
Some of you have sown in tears (Psalm 126:5) but the time has come to reap with exceeding joy. So fear not your harvest is on the way. Some of you have allowed the enemy to convince you that you are not good enough – and what you do is insignificant, but let me urge you to never despise the days of small beginnings. Though your beginning is small, your latter days will be greater (Job 8:7).
