Follow Me… the Master calls

Jesus gave the command “Follow me” to many.

He gave this command to Philip, the spiritual seeker (John 1:43).

He gave this command to Peter, Andrew, James, and John, who were fishermen (Matt. 4:19).

He gave this command to Matthew, the hated and traitorous tax collector (Matt.9:9). In responding to this command, Matthew gave up a comfortable job butfound a destiny. He lost a good income but found honor and self-respect. He lost financial security but found spiritual security.

He gave this command to the rich young ruler (Matt. 19:21). Because he had great riches, and because they had first place in his heart and
life, he declined our Lord’s invitation and went away lost.

Today He is calling you…

Check out the lyric of this old song: Softly and gently He’s calling

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
calling for you and for me;
see, on the portals he’s waiting and watching,
watching for you and for me.

Come home, come home;
ye who are weary come home;
earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
calling, O sinner, come home!

2. Why should we tary when Jesus is pleading,
pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not his mercies,
mercies for you and for me?

3. Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing,
passing from you and from me;
shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,
coming for you and for me.

4. O for the wonderful love he has promised,
promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, he has mercy and pardon,
pardon for you and for me.
